21 Savage makes his own knife. In this interview with GENIUS, he talks about his upbringing, and how he got to where he is today. Also speaks about the artist he used to listen to before rapping. 21 Savage said from 13-14 yrs old, he was listening to Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, Jay Z and Nas. As he got older, he started to listening to stuff with what he was doing, robbing, losing close friends, and would listen to gritty local underground rappers. Says he is now “on some old R&B shit” like Escape, Kieth Sweat, Destiny’s Child, Beyonce and others. He talks about how Sonny Digital, was the one to help discover his talent, and how he use to push him and keep him motivated to become who he is today. He actually gifted him his first microphone. Then he speaks about how he met Metro Boomin and got to working with him a lot, making some of his biggest hits yet.21 Savage’s debut studio album “ISSA” debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
